loganhone A clear visioned, black-n-white performance by Luscho; thoughtfully prepared & playfully executed. All the things to love about him are here: found poetry, friendly dance music, public domain videos, creative sound design, and his outfit is fantastic!!

This is yet another triumphant finding that Luke has discovered in his blue collared, daily clock-in of art & music making.

Lovin’ it, Luscho!
Favorite track: too light, too dark.

about

"The Alchemist In Hollywood" is a 1940s industrial film about film. That kind of circular mise en abyme logic always gets me real good.

"filling when the film runs free" is a set of progressively granular re-constructions of the film's voiceover.

the first piece recombines words and phrases to make new sentences. the second smashes syllables together into word-like units. and the third descends into the world of skittering phonemes and linguistic microsounds.

Each performance was recorded live on a Teenage Engineering OPZ, trying to catch happy accidents and force myself to actually learn how to perform on that instrument, which I've only ever used as a kind of musical sketchbook in the past.

The videos were overlaid live in OBS, with some post-production in Lightworks. I wanted to find a way to make music videos with public domain films that didn't require the kind of heavy editing I've usually done, so here I just let the films play while I played, knocking against the live performance footage, and embraced whatever that overlap produced as part of the piece.
